You’ve probably been there: You're standing in the middle of a flea market — and you're completely, utterly lost. And, sure, you went in with the intention of finding those one-of-a-kind furnishings and home accents, but you ultimately left empty-handed because you weren't quite sure what to look for or how to find those prized pieces. Know who else has been there? Gwyneth Paltrow. Really. In her latest goop journal entry, the actress admitted to feeling overwhelmed and unproductive at flea markets — and we had one of those rare “She’s just like us” moments. Well, okay, Gwyn is likely scouting out items we could only dream of affording, but she did offer up some helpful flea advice that anyone can use.
Paltrow enlisted Los Angeles-based interior designer Peter Dunham to spill his tricks of the flea-market trade in a user-friendly guide. And, while Dunham took Paltrow through France's The Montpellier Fair (far different from the setup in your local parking lot), he does share tips that apply to normal people, too — including the nuts and bolts of how to shop, styling cheat sheets, and a list of his favorite markets in your neighborhood. Read up and roll out this weekend with a newfound sense of determination to get the real goods at your local flea. (goop)
