This Week: Aleah Stander of Flywheel
The row of stationary bikes at my gym is almost always completely empty. Perhaps that's because trying to push over a tough hill under fluorescent lights doesn’t have the same allure as an indoor-cycling class with its darkened rooms, club-like playlists, and group of fellow (sweaty) riders. But, if you’re stuck at work and can’t make it to a class, Flywheel master instructor Aleah Stander wants to give your solo ride a little more oomph — cue her curated playlist that we can’t stop listening to.
“At Flywheel, the music determines the cadence, or how fast the legs are turning," Stander says. "When the bass drops, your body naturally wants to do more work, which is exactly what I coach my classes to do.” Her playlist includes “Latch” by Disclosure, which is “great for a heavy climb, when you turn the resistance way up,” and Steve Aoki’s track, “Rage the Night Away,” is perfect for crushing those sprints. Congratulations, your bike ride just got epic.
