It can be tricky for a woman to inject some personality into a 9-to-5 wardrobe when her workplace veers toward the conservative. But for men, the options are even more limited, and the difference between looking sharp or schlubby really just comes down to the perfect fit and carefully chosen details. With that in mind, GQ hit Capitol Hill on a makeover mission for the November issue.
While some of the mag's suggestions are wildly impractical (we don't know too many 23-year-old staff assistants buying $850 sport coats), quite a few of the others hit the mark. And even though the eight makeover results have some strong underlying themes — every "after" guy is rocking very slim, short trousers and slick hair — each one shows how simple, often affordable upgrades can really spruce up a man's look.

And if your guy ever needs convincing of the power of a properly tailored suit, just show him slide 3, where John Deoudes looks completely transformed by the GQ team's styling magic. We almost suspected the mag might have swapped the formerly frumpy legislative staffer with a pro male model for the "after" shot — but it's just the $845 worth of new clothes and a sexy new pout. Not bad. (GQ)
