We just opened Gwyneth Paltrow's latest GOOP newsletter, and while we loved reading all about her $50 jars of honey and the joys of royal jelly, we've got to say — we're a little skeptical about her latest beauty obsession, which involves using bee venom as a form of homeopathic medicine.
Now don't get us wrong — you know we love GP, and she's obviously doing something right because she look all kinds of amazing — we're not sure how we feel about purposely stinging yourself with bees. That's got to hurt. Apitherapy is a growing trend in homeopathy that involves using various bee-based treatments — including everything from their venom to their honey — to live a healthier, cleaner lifestyle. Bee venom is said to help stimulate a healthy immune response and can be used to treat various aches and pains. Obviously there are some side effects to this voluntary stinging, which include pain, itching, swelling, inflammation, and redness.
We've heard lots of people rave about what apitherapy has done for their health, and we know honey-based beauty products work great for our dry skin, but we're still unsure about how we feel on the topic of bee venom. So, you tell us: Apitherapy, the latest beauty craze or just plain crazy?
