After Patrick Robinson left The Gap, we've heard practically zilch from the basics brand. The problems Gap has been facing are ones that many established mall brands are experiencing—people visit the store for a specific item and don't shop around…in a nutshell, it's more about clothing than fashion. Gap is streamlining and beefing up its service, and also hiring a new chief designer. No word yet on who it'll be, though we have a few pipe-dream wishes. We think Phillip Lim would be absolutely perfect for the wholesome Americana brand, and Band of Outsiders' Scott Sternberg would also do wonders for the direction. Steven Alan? Richard Chai?
