Grab Your Flannel! This South Beach BBQ Joint Looks Awesome

Hogzilla South Beach BBQ- post
We’ve seen everything on South Beach: a guy with a live rooster inside his bicycle basket, Lucite stilettos the length of our forearms, and plenty of odd cocktails that look better than they taste. And right when we thought the hood couldn’t get any weirder, we hear there’s a restaurant serving frog legs…actually, that sounds pretty awesome.
The latest addition to the area’s culinary scene is a redneck-chic (um, that’s how they’re positioning it) joint dubbed Hogzilla’s Inspired Barbeque. Inside, the space looks like a large (and clean) wilderness lodge where men in Timberlands and flannel would smash beer mugs and rip beef jerky with their teeth. (Hey, this is our fantasy.) This new spot may sound a little lowbrow, but actually, it’s a welcome departure from the other pretentious options in the neighborhood. And the menu is worth exploring: mac and cheese croquetas, gator sausage bites, chickpea veggie burgers, and chocolate bacon cupcakes. Yes, there are salads and other meatless items, too.

Next Thursday, Hogzilla's will be celebrating its opening with a blowout party featuring free barbecue fare, complimentary cocktails, fun photo opps, and live performances by Gator Nate and The Gladesmen. Sounds like a scene from The Waterboy — but classier, of course.
When: Thursday, December 15, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: 1555 Washington Avenue; 305-538-7201. An RSVP to info@hogzillas.com is encouraged.
