By now, we've mostly mastered the cat-eye. We'd even call it easy. A line here, a little flick there, half a bottle of makeup remover, and presto — two feline tips that make our eyes look more awake than any iced red-eye ever could. It's our look du jour, but the spring runways gave us something entirely new to think about: squared-off liner. This modified cat-eye squares off those pointy edges for a look that seems tough, even masculine.
To get the lowdown, we chatted up makeup artist Allie Smith, and it's a lot easier than it looks. She suggests layering lids with primer for a budge-proof base and using a liquid eyeliner like COVERGIRL Intensify Me! Liquid Liner to create a traditional cat-eye. Then, square off the end, bringing the line down to your lower lashline. Draw a line out from the outer corner of your lower lashline to meet the first one, and fill in the empty space. Dust on a bit of loose powder to make sure the liner stays in place. And, round out the look with two coats of mascara and a touch of lip balm to keep the focus on the eyes.
See? It's never been cooler to be square.
