Karen O Blows Our Minds. Again. This Time, No Wild Things Are Involved.

Let's flashback to several weeks ago when you may have (or unfortunately, may not have) hit up the the weekend-long event, The Creator's Project. Among the many, many highlights was the opening performance of the highly-anticipated Karen O musical.
Unlike any other box-office Broadway hit, the amazing Yeah Yeah Yeahs front woman created a dark, twisted, edge-of-your-seat spectacle in her psych-rock opera Stop the Virgens. With the the help of stylist and costume designer Christian Joy (the woman consistently responsible for Karen's memorable, outlandish, and awesome style), Karen has essentially put together a crazy-emotional musical roller coaster that'll erase any memory of cheese-fests like Mamma Mia! (we secretly love it too, but still) from your mind.

She says Virgens tells the tale of "an assault on the tragic joys of youth, fever dreams drenched in visual seduction, a cathartic spell spun through a cycle of nine songs." But this was not a story told through punk rock alone; the show-stopping costumes including dresses of human hair, horns, claws, and deconstructed choir robes to outfit the Virgen chorus, will leave you visually stunned as well.
Other genius helping hands involved with Stop The Virgens include wig master and makeup artist, Mike Potter, YYY bandmates, and writer/director Adam Rapp. If you're kicking yourself for having missed out join the club be patient; word on the street is that additional performances of this sick rock opera might be in the works. Until then, MTV landed an inside look into the creative minds behind Stop The Virgens that will spark your curiosity and build even more anticipation for a Karen O encore performance. Fingers crossed! (MTV Style)
