Our affinity for online shopping runs deep (you’d freak if we told you the inordinate amount of time we spend on Pinterest), but sometimes, you just can’t beat a good ol’ brick-and-mortar experience. However, the downside is we do find ourselves getting lost in the labyrinth of merch, wishing we could pinpoint what we want in a snap.
Well, leave it to the tech-minded to find a solution. According to Apple Insider, Macy’s is partnering up with Shopkick to be one of the first to test out Apple’s new iBeacon software, which tracks users' entrance into the store and alerts them if items starred within the Shopkick app are available and in which department. It even sends you item alerts from curated editor lists.
Apple’s iBeacon software, which launched alongside iOS7, is a low-energy Bluetooth, location-based offering that tracks users’ proximity to a building and subsequently pushes notifications. As of now, Macy's flagships in San Francisco and Manhattan are the only two participating, but here's to hoping for a national rollout soon. Holiday shopping? It's in the (Macy's) bag.
