It may be surprising, but the recent steps Macy's has taken in decreasing their carbon footprint seem rather innovative in terms of what other department stores have been doing. Firstly, the stores will discontinue their use of those clear, plastic petroleum-based hangers and start using black hangers made from recycled plastics. Additionally, Macy's will install LED lightbulbs, eliminate foam packaging at in-store restaurants, increase solar power systems, encourage e-bill use, and offer "Recyclebank Rewards Partner" incentives to their shoppers to get discounts when they engage in reducing home energy. And with rumors of the Karl Lagerfeld line for Macy's rolling out next fall, this is even more of a reason to hotstep it to the department store. (WWD)
