Palo Alto’s own James Franco has just announced his next move in his increasingly varied career: Directing a documentary about local, Mission-based porn empire Kink.com(!!!). According to HuffPost SF, the 33-year-old, much-crushed-upon Bay Area native recently explained his admiration for porn stars while visiting Conan O’Brien. "I got a video camera and my girlfriend and I decided to film ourselves. We watched it back and said, 'Yeah, well, let's never watch that again.’” Franco told Coco. "Those people in the pornos, they are great performers. They're not just doing it, they're selling it to an audience." So, the multi-talented star cast his eyes to S.F.’s resident porn hub, Kink.com. “There's this amazing facility in San Francisco. It's at this old armory and they do everything in-house,” Franco explained of his subject. “They build their props in-house, so I'm making a documentary about that. It's an incredible place.” According to tweets from the Kink.com account, research for the project apparently began in late June. Not surprisingly, the folks at Kink are pretty hyped about it, too. "Our mission is to demystify sexuality and fetish,” Kink.com’s Alison Voss tells HuffPo. “We're very transparent about our practices, policies, and commitment to ethical production. James Franco obviously has a huge reach, and we believe that the more people that see this, the more people will open their minds to sexual minorities.” Um...sure, why not? Also, this isn't the first time Franco has teamed up with a local company on a headline-grabbing project. Let's not forget his "Brad Renfro Forever" $650 switchblade collection for S.F.-based The Thing Quarterly.
