Karen Walker Upholsters Us A Flowery Fresh Fall 2010

"Those suits that looked like couches—love it!" we heard an editor beam after walking out of Karen Walker's fall 2010 show yesterday. Indeed, the desaturated floral pantsuits and warm blue ottoman-print dresses caught the eyes of Peaches Geldof and what might be the most adorably dressed audience of all Fashion Week. True, the iridescent lurex linen pieces with flyaway bibs had some scratching their heads. But the use of thick-woven textiles, glamorous shearling collars, pink satiny pumps (our new obsession!), and knee-length school-boy shorts for the cold season brought us big smiles. There was some serious business with charcoal cropped blazers and the final piece, a tan-and-black floral skinny suit. But with the gray sweater dress with shoulder fringing (another winner), the massive balaclavas, and the deliciously oversized shearling tote bag, it was still play time on the runway.
