Karyn Starr, Personal Stylist, Co-Owner of White-Starr Aesthetic Consulting
In 2006, Karyn quit a job in corporate fashion to attend yoga school, while styling on a freelance basis. It was at this critical juncture, and as more and more people inquired if she would consider helping style them, that she recognized a gap in the market. “There are so many successful people in this town,” she says, “who need and want to look their best, but have no time.” Introduced to future partner, Andrea, through a mutual friend, White-Starr Aesthetic was born after one forty-five minute coffee meeting between the two.

What skill or habit do you think is vital for success?
"First of all, flexibility and willingness to learn things that don’t come naturally to you. When we started out, we couldn’t afford a bookkeeper. I am not naturally good at numbers, but I did all of our invoicing and banking for two years. Secondly, successful people delegate. As soon as we could afford a bookkeeper, we hired one!”

What’s your favorite thing to wear to work?
“Winter: Slim leather trousers (Elizabeth Charles on Hudson always has amazing options), silk blouse, ankle boots, and a blazer. Summer: Dressy shorts, a white, lacy (somewhat tattered) blouse, a light blazer, and gold Jutta Neumann sandals from Warm NY on Mott Street."
Who’s your working girl inspiration?
“Our female clients! We ask them to be the best version of themselves, so every day when I get dressed, I step it up for them.”
