Every time we get word of Kate Middleton's spending habits, we're not sure whether to feel shocked or pleasantly surprised. Obviously, a $37K beauty budget is a far cry from our occasional drugstore sale-rack scavenging, but when we heard that Catherine spends £35,000 a year on clothes (about $54,000), our automatic instinct to gasp was cut off by a sneaking suspicion that this royal closet probably costs a lot less than those of some American celebrities.
Now, don't get us wrong – we're not ready to start dropping $54K on shopping sprees (although...we wish). But, we suspect this number could have been a lot higher. After all, Kate's known for the broad price spectrum of her wardrobe and, though she might've sported a gorgeous gown by Alexander McQueen (the ultimate in unattainable designers, if you ask us) at her wedding, she's also been spotted out and about, plenty of times, in pieces from significantly more affordable U.K. retailers. The thing that did make us do a double take? All those classic, conservative looks are apparently a line item on the household budget, which is under the purview of...her father-in-law?
