Does This Start-Up Stack Up? Online Styling With An Entrepreneurial Twist

KR-600x400
While a simple Google search will show you that online one-on-one personal styling advice isn't a new concept, you may not be able to think of a go-to website off the top of your head. One company looking to shake up this space with its network of industry professional stylists, fast advice turnaround, and entrepreneurial spirit is Keaton Row, a start-up that pairs tech-savvy, time-poor women and an online personal stylist in an Avon-like business model.
Is there a catch? Surprisingly not. Whatever it is that you need — from a complete closet overhaul to a cute outfit for an upcoming meet-the-parents occasion, all style advice provided is free of charge. The stylists make a commission on a percentage of the sales they generate from their clients' purchases, and also from the sales of other stylists they've recruited to Keaton Row. Co-founders Cheryl Han and Elenor Mak say, "It’s about empowering two groups of women. The busy professional woman who’s overwhelmed by what fashion has become online, and the new generation of Avon women seeking that entrepreneurial experience to build [their] own business."

How does this work exactly? Well, first you complete a quick style quiz, which provides a glimpse into your personal taste, budget, and current needs (anything from a seasonal wardrobe transition to an occasion-specific outfit). Within 24-48 hours, three compatible stylists will be presented to you, and you get to pick the one that you feel best resonates with your style. Your stylist will then curate five to seven customized looks for you, which include items for purchase via Keaton Row's retail partner websites Shopbop, Piperlime and Baublebar, at the same price advertised online.
So, while there's only one true way to see if the site delivers on its promise — y'know, actually use it — we want to know what your take is. Have you used a personal-styling site before? And do you think this one can live up to their claims? Spill it in the comments below.
