Laurel Pantin Likens Her Style To a Famous Slacker — Guess Who?

Laurel Pantin, Associate Accessories and Shopping Editor, Glamour
Remember when you broke out the knee-high socks and miniskirt suits to channel one Miss Cher Horowitz. Well, we've perhaps overlooked another well-deserving style influencer of the famous flick, Clueless. Thankfully, Glamour's own Laurel Pantin helped us remember.
The associate accessories and shopping editor compares her borrowed-from-the-boys look to that of the famous movie slacker, Travis Birkenstock. But even if the NY-based editor's outfits verge into lazy-girl territory — the same ones for days, she admits — we'll argue her awesome boy-meets-girl, grungy-meets-glamour style is totally worth playing on repeat. After all, the Clueless character may have been a bit of an underachiever, but as for this platinum-haired fashion editor? As if!

My style in six words or less:
"Travis Birkenstock with expensive taste."

My constant source of style inspiration:
"I like movies more than specific people. Right now, Paul Newman and Robert Redford (hubba, hubba!) in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Maggie Mann at Glamour just lent me Coal Miner’s Daughter, and watching it was like magic. I’m so into it."

The dressing difficulties I've had to overcome:
"I have a hard time not wearing the same thing for weeks on end. Every weekend I wear the same thing every day — not different versions of the same thing, the same actual thing. I’m always sad when I realize I can’t keep it going into the work week."

My first major, big-ticket style purchase:
"I bought a vintage, Chanel coat a few years ago. It’s hot pink with a Peter Pan collar — it’s pretty scary, but because it’s Chanel it gets a pass. It’s like the perfect example of the Chanel beer-goggles phenomenon."

My most surprising, out-of-left-field fashion find:
"One time I bought some houndstooth, silk YSL trousers on eBay that were supposedly once owned by Paula Abdul. The most surprising thing about that was that I thought I wore the same size as Paula Abdul."

My definitive summer go-to outfit:

"A swimsuit! Because it means I’m going swimming!"

If I were 80 years old today:
"I’m still hoping I can grow up to be a really put-together, elegant lady (ha!), so maybe that will happen by the time I’m 80? Fat chance!"
