London Fashion Week: Unique by Topshop

ts0917a
Topshop kicked off London Fashion Week with a healthy dose of Brit cool from the English retailer's higher end in-house designed premium label Unique. At the New Gen space in P3 University of Westminster—an underground car park basically—fashionistas sipped champagne and took in the youthful collection peppered with gambling motifs ("lucky 7"s, hearts, and diamonds print patterns appeared on several New-Romantic style pieces). Zippered grey suede dresses and hard-edged stone-washed denim or jersey shoulder pads reigned supreme elsewhere. One could tell that Katie Grand had been successful in adding a dash of club kid madness to the line. Jen Ford gushed as she looked forward to oft-delayed opening of Topshop NY. "New Yorkers are so ready for Topshop, everyone will go crazy. Myself I'm a little bit sorry that I won't be able to say to someone 'oh this top is from Topshop, so you can't buy it unless you go to London'." Interesting point, Jen—but we'd rather have the store.
