London Label Belle Sauvage Makes Theatrical Clothes You Can Actually Wear

Fashion's been on a circus-y kick lately, which probably started with Miuccia Prada's genius spring '08 collection for Miu Miu, one that first brought out the theatrics in harlequin dresses or freaky face frocks. For fall '09, Erin Fetherston turned out big tent-worthy dresses, while Pepper and Pistol showcased a lookbook with all the feel of a roadside show. Now London label Belle Sauvage is bringing out the theatrics with a fall lookbook filled with bright red lips, insanely painted eyes, and clothes that are a dash '80s grandeur mixed with the eerie and surreal: Big lone eyes embossed on tiny minidresses, little black capes topped off with height-defying platforms, a graphic print top and matching head wrap. But mixed right, these are pieces you can wear every day—without looking like you've just escaped from the circus ring.
