In case you haven’t heard, luxury is O.V.E.R. It’s all about hyper-luxury, according to the peeps at Louis Vuitton. The French fashion house has hired accessories designer supremo Darren Spaziani to head up its new focus on super-luxe leather goods, WWD reports. This news is a little surprising given that high end accessories are already Louis Vuitton’s calling card, but the fashion house wants its bags to go even more upscale—and it sounds like they’ve found the right man for the job.
Darren comes from excellent arm candy stock having previously worked at labels like Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler, and iconic bags on his resume include the PS1.

It’s also something of a homecoming for the designer, who did a stint at Louis Vuitton between 2004 and 2006.
Delphine Arnault, who joined Vuitton earlier this month as executive vice president, described the man in question as “one of the most talented designers of his generation.”
“He is already familiar with our house and he will bring his modern vision and great professionalism to Louis Vuitton’s creations,” she added.
We’ll have to wait until Darren starts his new gig next month to find out what he’s got planned, but one thing is certain: the era of the It bag era is anything but over.
