Man Oh Man! NY Fashion Week’s Best Looks for Lads

Despite all the lady hoopla, it was indeed also a big week for menswear. And truth be told, we liked much of what we saw. As with many of the women's trends, practicality and ease ruled with simply-edited, slightly-styled staples, reminding us that in summertime, the living should always be easy! We'll extend a warm welcome to 3.1 Phillip Lim and his new menswear collection, which really impressed. Equally pleasing were the many fabrications of layered pieces and easy-going cuts. The Not-too-short Short: Phillip Lim's spin on the camp-khaki short was right on the money, nailing a hemline that was just long (or short) enough.

The Seven-Layer Stud: Okay, maybe we're not talking seven layers, but more and more designers are encouraging our fellow man to play around with fabrics, separates, and contrast. Rag & Bone got it exactly right with this casual-cool look. The trick? A darker-contrast vest to break up the muted palette and add some interest. Yes, taking notes is recommended!

The Slouch Sans Sloppy: Easy-going clothes can sometimes look sloppy, but not when you add some structure, as Rag & Bone did, and the Henley paired here with dressed-down dress pants is just the ticket.
