Man Oh Man! NY Fashion Week’s Best Looks for Lads

Despite all the lady hoopla, it was indeed also a big week for menswear. And truth be told, we liked much of what we saw. As with many of the women's trends, practicality and ease ruled with simply-edited, slightly-styled staples, reminding us that in summertime, the living should always be easy! We'll extend a warm welcome to 3.1 Phillip Lim and his new menswear collection, which really impressed. Equally pleasing were the many fabrications of layered pieces and easy-going cuts. Read on for more manly highlights.
3.1 Phillip Lim

The Not-too-short Short: Phillip Lim's spin on the camp-khaki short was right on the money, nailing a hemline that was just long (or short) enough.

Rag & Bone

The Seven-Layer Stud: Okay, maybe we're not talking seven layers, but more and more designers are encouraging our fellow man to play around with fabrics, separates, and contrast. Rag & Bone got it exactly right with this casual-cool look. The trick? A darker-contrast vest to break up the muted palette and add some interest. Yes, taking notes is recommended!

The Slouch Sans Sloppy: Easy-going clothes can sometimes look sloppy, but not when you add some structure, as Rag & Bone did, and the Henley paired here with dressed-down dress pants is just the ticket.

Shipley & Halmos

The Timeless Machine: Issued in spring 2010 and valid till 2050, the failsafe formula of classic blazer, favorite T, and slim jeans came courtesy of Shipley & Halmos.

Marc by Marc JacobsThe Nostal'Jock: Every man should own a polished crewneck sweatshirt, and loads of designers this season agreed. Top to bottom, this look is a bit of a throwback to high-school glory days, but the refined lines give it a court appeal that's fresher than fresh.
Steven Alan

The Board With Life: Light, comfortable, and a touch gentlemanly, Steven Alan's brand of beach attire made us yearn for Mailbu sunsets and warm summer days. Paired with a simple crisp button-down, this is how to get the long board short look exactly right.
Gilded Age:

The Wanderer: No need for maps or directions with this prep-with-a-twist look; we love the fresh mix of colors, plaids, and utter lack of complications

Patrik Ervell

The Reluctant One: Guys in cardigans are a necessary evil. But given Patrik Ervell's slightly shrunken, lighter-weight option, no guy will ever wonder if he looks like Mr. Rogers ever again.
Band of Outsiders

Suspended In Style: This Band of Outsiders look grabbed our attention for its major versatility. Mixing dapper suspenders with any of the above staples will definitely shake up any dude's routine, spring or fall.
