Say It Ain’t So! The Mindy Project Is Going On Hiatus

Devastating news alert: Fox has decided to put The Mindy Project on hiatus, with its last episode of the season slated to air on January 28. Deadline reported that our fave funny lady's sitcom and newbie series Dads will be bumped due to low ratings, making room on Tuesday for Glee in the first hour, followed by New Girl and freshman comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine in the second slot.
Mindy had been on a three-week ratings decline, according to Gawker. The site also notes that the big-name guest stars (ahem, James Franco), as well as the addition of series regular Adam Pally, made production costs especially high, yielding low investment returns. The slew of lovable guest stars may have also stalled character development, as the majority of the regulars — Mindy and Danny excluded — have been dealing with weekly shenanigans played out at the conclusion of each episode.
While our hearts are broken that come February, our funny-girl fix will be temporarily stalled, there's a silver lining: The Mindy Project will return in April with an hourlong premiere. Phew.
