While afternoon tea would rarely be considered a dowdy affair, London’s Berkeley Hotel has taken the British mid-day meal to a whole other level of style. Prêt-à-Portea, as it’s called, boasts the usual afternoon tea accoutrements—selection of nice teas, savory snacks and sandwiches—while also offering a rotating selection of sweets directly inspired by the season’s runway collections. This spring’s treats include a tropical color-blocked parfait, inspired by Stella McCartney’s bonkers citrus-printed dresses and a praline, chocolate-bead-covered clutch inspired by Chloé. There’s also a navy Miu Miu cookie bikini and Marc Jacobs jumpsuit with “over-sized chocolate belt.” The sweets selection changes every six months, to coincide with the latest high-fashion offerings. At £36.50 (roughly $58) per person, Prêt-à-Portea, though perhaps pricey for one meal—is a far cry from notoriously high designer prices. Because sometimes, nice clothes can look good enough to eat—and at the Berkeley, you can do just that. (Betty Magazine)
