Brain Teaser: Mono’s Thought-Provoking Spring/Summer ’09 Lookbook

Designer Heather Martin is the lovely Canadian behind the British Columbia-based Mono, a label that seeks to explore the intersection of art, craft, design, and fashion. We just received their spring/summer '09 lookbook, and we were instantly drawn to the loose-fitting, ethereal looks that dominate this latest turnout, appropriately named, interlacing opposing thoughts . But while we're definitely intrigued by these rather artsy numbers, we do worry about all these new designers taking such a chance in the current sink-hole of a market, when even the most expressive shoppers are getting more discriminating. Then again, maybe the risk is good. Your thoughts on designer newcomers in this shit-storm of an economy are most welcome...
