Manhattan is not exactly a surf capital — cramped subways are hardly ideal for carrying boards — but, make no mistake, things changed when Saturdays Surf NYC arrived in '09. And, in part, we have Morgan Collett to thank — the co-owner of the downtown surf shop, which recently opened in Kobe, Japan. Collett himself embodies that cool, easy appeal of the surf culture.
My constant source of style inspiration:
"James Dean. Marlon Brando (back in the day)."
The dressing difficulties I've had to overcome:
"I don’t think I have too much difficulty getting dressed. Probably the need to get my pants tailored, because I am not that tall. I like them to land right at the ankle, superclean, no roll."
My first major big-ticket style purchase:
"My watch. Rolex Sea Dweller."
My most surprising, out-of-left field fashion find:
"Leopard-print Vans. They’re awesome."
My style theme song:
"Jonathan Richman, 'I Was Dancing in the Lesbian Bar.'”
My three favorite places to shop:
"Saturdays, West Village. Acne, Greene Street, NYC."
My definitive summer go-to outfit:
"White T-shirt. Denim or chinos. Saturdays canvas shoes. No socks."
