This Is Our Jam: Motion Studies, “Hearts Will Beat”

A captivating dance track, like a good magic trick, takes time to unfold. “Hearts Will Beat” is the first single from Motion Studies, a new synth pop project lead by former Tempo No Tempo member Tyler McCauley. Motion Studies share little with the guitar-heavy sound of McCauley’s past bands (he also played with Grooms for a stint), instead, planting both feet firmly in the world of electronic pop. While “Hearts Will Beat” begins with little more than a spare synth line and McCauley's digitally altered singing, the track slowly builds, weaving in stomping percussion and house piano. Ultimately though, Motion Studies big reveal is the bell-clear vocals of Emma Collins who offers a nice counterpoint to McCauley’s mechanically-laced melody.
