Chicago is no stranger to major music. And among the recent ranks of Chi-town's musical darlings, you'll find Kid Sister, a hip-hop artist who got her start on stage with Flosstradamus, a driving force behind Chicago's millennial musical renaissance (her brother is half of this beloved DJ duo). Generating some serious buzz, Kid Sister made herself a household name in record time thanks in part to her knack for bringing the live performance game to a whole new level. And, well, her style ain't too shabby either. That's why we touched base with this local native to find out what she loves most about Chicago and where she goes to get that hometown fix.

What makes a Chicago venue fun to play?

"I've got a lot of Chicago venue favorites. The general rule is either real grimy or super-posh. In-between stinks!"

What is your go-to spot for a great cocktail?
"The Long Room Tap. I get a Cointreau margarita on the rocks with sea salt."

Long Room Tap, 1612 West Irving Park Road (at Ashland Avenue); 773-665-4500.

What is your favorite hometown indulgence in Chicago?

"Marie's Pizza and Liquors in Chicago, open since the 1940s. It's now run by Marie's granddaughter, also Marie. They make you walk through a liquor store before you get to your table! They have strolling gypsy bands on weekends and something called cabaret night. It's basically karaoke with an accompaniment by a baby grand. No songs are under 40 years old, and almost no singers are under 60."
Marie's Pizza and Liquors, 4129 West Lawrence Avenue (at Kedvale Avenue); 773-725-1812.

When you're not performing, and actually have a minute to see a show, where do you go?

"It's gotta be The Metro."

The Metro, 3730 North Clark Street (at Waveland Avenue); 773-549-4140.

On the off-chance that you get some downtime, what is your relaxing routine?

"Easy: carbs+beer+trash television+Bulls game."

We know Chicago loves you, but what do you love about our fab city?

"Going back to Chicago is like putting on an old pair of shoes you've loved for a long time; they're comfortable and maybe a little sentimental and fit you to a T."
