Nearly 10-year-old indie jewelry and 'zine shop Needles and Pens is starting off the new year with a brand-spankin'-new store, nestled within the Voyager collective space on Valencia between 14th and 15th streets (the so-called "Valencia Bottoms" microhood).
The new permanent satellite boutique (the larger original shop still remains on 16th Street) is taking over the former Mollusk Surf Shop space, which is actually an in-store submarine built by local handcraft master Jay Nelson. The amazing mini-shop, which features a working periscope, is one the folks over at Needles and Pens say they are "pleased as punch" to occupy and represents a 360 of sorts, given that Nelson built a design-savvy treehouse within the Needles and Pens shop back in 2005.

The new location within Voyager, which also boasts shop-in-shops by Revolver, Spartan, and the Michael Rosenthal Art Gallery, will carry Needles and Pens staples like cool, super-affordable jewelry, quirky stationery, 'zines, and artwork. And just like that, Valencia Street has added yet another gem.
