We're going to go out on a limb and say that Nicole Richie is the definition of a hot mama. In the midst of juggling three (count em, three!) design gigs, a TV show, and chasing down her two little ones, she manages to look casually flawless on the reg. We tracked down the busy fashionista at an NYC H&M bash fête-ing the success of her NBC hit Fashion Star, hosted by Nicole and fellow mentor John Varvatos. Looking stunning in a Winter Kate sheath and House of Harlow 1960 baubles (naturally), she chatted with us about a few of her favorite things.

What do you like best about working with with Fashion Star, especially in comparison to some of the other design shows out there?
"Well, I think what's so exciting for America is that people are watching these clothes go down the runway, then they're able to order them online that night, or go into a store like H&M and get them the very next day. It's really the epitome of immediate fashion, it's accessible fashion, and they are clothes that America wants to wear. And, you're not voting with your phone, you're voting with your wallet and people are just loving the clothes, and they're selling out almost immediately. It's been an amazing response."

Do you personally shop high and low, like H&M?
"I'm not a big believer in just looking at a label. You know, you really have to choose what you're buying based on how you feel in it, and fashion is a form of self-expression. It doesn't matter how much it costs — I shop at more expensive stores, and I shop at thrift stores. A lot of my hippie dresses are $10."

If you could pick one piece of clothing to wear every day, what would it be?
"I like my thrift store peasant dresses. I just like throwing them on — my husband calls them my muumuus."

We thought you were going to say the motorcycle jacket, you always kill it with those.
"Well, that's if I was going to wear separates. If I'm going simple with one thing, it's the peasant dress."

For spring and summer, what is your one accessory that you're big on right now?
"Well, we're doing some really great headpieces for House of Harlow, so I'm honestly all about a headpiece, especially in the summer. I love to take vintage scarves and tie them around my head, especially if I'm going to the beach. I have curly hair, and I don't always have time to do my hair, so that's always my tip for people. Just get a headscarf and figure out what looks good on you, and just kinda tie it around your head. Oh, and sunglasses!"

We know that you're big on Twitter, and we think you're hilarious. Do you have anyone that you love to follow yourself, that we should get into?
"I would say follow my friend @Sofifi, she's hysterical. I gave her that name, so I'm gonna take credit for everything she does, and for how funny she is."
