It seems like every summer season designers manage to devise a new take on tie-dye. Whether it's Isabel Marant's sexy mini dresses or Etro's free-spirited fashions, the Woodstock-inspired trend isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Case in point: Fashion designer and tie-dye maven Shabd Simon-Alexander is teaming up with the supremely cool L.A. boutique Ooga Booga to host a tie-dye crash course and party. At this tubular tutorial, Shabd will teach the procedures for dyeing, various tying methods, Shibori techniques and basic color theory, dye chemistry, and color mixing. The cool class is $65 and includes one free garment to dye, but feel free to bring your own items to experiment with (free of charge).

After you’ve mastered the art of dyeing at the course, get your Proenza Schouler on and tie-dye like the pros at Ooga Booga’s tie-dye bash (there is a $15 dye fee per garment, but don’t hesitate to bring your own natural-fiber fabric or clothing). In addition, Shabd’s summer 2012 collection will be 25% off this weekend only. So, get ready to punch up your wardrobe with psychedelic prints and embrace the modern spin on one of fashion’s most radical trends. Far out!
When: Saturday, July 7, Tie-Dye Crash Course 2:30 to 4 p.m., Tie-Dye Party, 4-6 p.m.
Where: Ooga Booga, 943 North Broadway Street #203 (near Lincoln Boulevard); 213-617-1105.
