With A New Perfume, Oscar de la Renta Puts A Ring On It

Not to go all bridezilla on you, but we're not above a little wedding-dress daydreaming — especially if the gown in question is by Oscar de la Renta. While not all of us might be able to walk down the aisle in one of his dresses, get this: the octogenarian wants you to wear his ring.
Okay, so maybe he's not really asking for anyone's hand. (He's been married for more than 20 years, actually.) But weddings are on his mind with Something Blue, his first bridal fragrance. A clean and soft floral, it mixes notes of mandarin, linden blossom, bourbon vanilla, and stephanotis — a fragrant bloom that's close to the designer's heart. "Stephanotis is a flower that's used in bridal bouquets, and it's a flower that I love," de la Renta explained during a recent launch event at his showroom. (Need proof? Something Blue's stephanotis was initially extracted from a plant taken from his personal garden.)

But let's back to that ring. The bottle comes with a removable one; shaped like a wedding band, it's meant to signify a long-lasting bond between de la Renta and the woman who wears his fragrance. It's clear he's in for the long haul, especially when it comes to perfume. "I don't believe in changing your fragrance for different occasions, because you don't change your face for different occasions," he said. "Furthermore, if you have a man who loves you, and everywhere you go he gets a different whiff of you, then he won't recognize who you are." So, let's sum up: A gentleman who gardens, designs to-die-for gowns, and who's into commitment? It just might be love.

Something Blue by Oscar de la Renta, $65 – $115, available at Saks Fifth Avenue.
