This Pocket Knife Necklace Is Totally Top Brass

One of the more distinctive items out of Kaufmann Mercantile –– the online-only shop for finely-crafted wares –– is a jewelry collab between Oklahoma-grown blacksmith Gene Wiseman, and our girl Shana Tabor, of Brooklyn haunt In God We Trust.
Enter: The pocket knife necklace, in which Wiseman's and Tabor's expertise are brought into glorious harmony. Indeed, this unique accessory shows Wiseman's craftsmanship (like the the slip-joint fittings or tapered D-2 steel), and, at the same time, makes stellar use of Tabor's eye for artistry — her hand is obvious in the flat-draw make of the chain and its warm, oxidized color.

Of course, the knife-when-you-need-it feature is awesome (and so Hunger Games-relevant), but let's talk bigger picture. In a world where mom & pop, time-tested quality is but a blip on the (super) fast-fashion e-commerce horizon, we think this crafty treasure is a consummate exception to our modern quality-for-convenience trade. This one's definitely going on our to-buy-for-boyfriend list. Or, uh, buy for ourselves.
Kaufmann Mercantile Pocket Knife Necklace, $490, available at Kaufmann Mercantile.
