One of the best parts of shopping in NYC (besides all the to-die-for high fashion of course) is all the small, local boutiques. There are always (nearly) one-of-a-kind treasures to be found, and supporting an up-and-coming business guarantees an instat good feeling. Now, thanks to a brand-new initiative from the New York Economic Development Corporation, shopping local is about to get a whole lot cooler.
Project Pop-Up NYC is a competition to find the best and the brightest in emerging fashion brands. Retailers will compete against each other for a free, month-long retail space in Chelsea. Winners are selected by a panel of style stars, including designer Norma Kamali; Brandon Holley, editor-in-chief of Lucky; and Andy Dunn, CEO of Bonobos. Up to three retailers will win the prize, and will set up shop within curated concept store STORY come Fashion Week. The application period closes on Monday, July 30, and winners will be announced shortly afterwards, so you can start clearing your Fashion Week schedules now.
