If you've been keeping an eye on the latest round of Resort collections you know they're good. Like beyond brilliant, want everything now good (ah, if only we could swap rent for Resort). With a nod to what customers are looking for these days, designers across the board seem to have a renewed focus in making every look count—which is all the more important when you're talking about 12 or 13 pieces.
So, rather than put up aspirational collections with limited appeal, designers like
Alexander Wang, Philip Lim, and Stella McCartney returned to the classics, finding new ways to inject their perspective into wardrobe staples. In light of the overall goodness, we've rounded up a few of the season's super-stars—line-ups that were in themselves a destination. Because reality be damned, don't we all need a vacation?

Most Unexpected: Alexander Wang
After season's of zippered leather, and black bondage dresses dare we say we were surprised to see Alex Wang's lighter side (too much time in The Gap?). For resort he offered up all-American standbys-like chambray shorts, overalls and a navy blazer with a dash of the subversive: Preppy stripes are paired with a sexy sequins and cable knit is embroidered on a sleeveless mini dress. Perfect for a night out in Montauk, non?

Most Explosive: Christopher Kane
No one does photorealism quite like Christopher Kane (remember those apes?). But after a season of wilting florals (ack!), we're swooning over the fresh, chemical colors of his unexpected mushroom cloud-prints. For resort, it's definitely cutting edge, but pieces like the innocent asymmetrical dresses and Kane's signature biker jackets are also explosively wearable. Definitely a bombshell!

Most Transporting: Marc Jacobs
For resort Marc takes us away to the glitzy, gold-lamé-tinted backyards of Old Hollywood. Think cropped jackets worn with itsy-bitsy bikini tops, satin shorts, and acidic floral prints. And those ruffles? Do we detect a Latin influence? If you can't take a trip this summer, this might just be the next best thing.

Most Wanted: Stella McCartney
As far as we're concerned: Stella can do no wrong. From that divine lace jumpsuit (that Met Gala get-up gave us goose-bumps) on down to the sporty anorak dresses and silky floral numbers...we want everything! Alas if only we were gazillionaires with Gwyneth's legs.

Most Improved: 3.1 Philip Lim
Not that we didn't love parts of Lim's fall collection (we still heart that metallic band leader jacket with tapered skinnies!). But truth be told, it could have used an edit. Which is among the reasons his resort range works beautifully. It's tighter and truer to Lim's cleanly cut aesthetic. Though his uptowner-gone-rock-chick is very much alive and well (just relocated to the beach) in pieces like his biker jacket, rolled metallic shorts, and slouchy blazers.
