We're entirely sick of talking about the economy, but the reality of the shoddy market has affected not only how designers conduct their business, but also the actual designs they're turning out. Richard Chai took advantage of these dire straits by presenting his lower-priced Richard Chai Love line instead of his usual higher-end pieces. Smart move, considering the bevy of buyers for national retail outlets, mag editors (including nearly all of Teen Vogue and Paper), and fashion-friends like Phillip Lim and a pregnant Karolina Kurkova who got a runway-presented impression of Chai's more affordable collection that will undoubtedly stick fast. As always, Chai is not about high-falutin concepts, and instead he focused Love around "perfect" pieces: That is, perfect anoraks, perfect shirts, and perfect rompers (not to mention perfect sweatpants), which will all make lasting additions to our wardrobes.
