With the news that Rick Santorum, presidential hopeful and knitwear aficionado, has withdrawn from the race for the GOP nomination today, we're faced with a burning question: What will come of the sweater vest? More importantly, what of the $300,000 Santorum reportedly raised from sales of his signature fashion go-to?
The campaign sold the embroidered vests for $100 a pop, which means that 3,000 fans splurged on a sleeveless sweater emblazoned with "Rick Santorum." That boggles the mind a bit, considering all the awesome things you can score for under $100. But we appreciate anyone who makes an unconventional style choice and stands by it — and even better, profits handsomely from it — so, we'll give Santorum a hand. After all, he did for sweater vests what Mr. Rogers did for cardigans.
But, we will say this: Good thing the design team went with just "Rick Santorum" and not "Rick Santorum 2012," huh? (Huffington Post)
