R.I.P Yoko Devereaux: The Cult Label Shutters With a Crazy Liquidation Sale, Starting at $5

yoko-deveraux-saleWe were so sad to hear that cult menswear fave Yoko Devereux is the latest line to fall prey to financial troubles (gotta love the recession!). Designer darling Andy Salzer is being forced to kill his 10-year-old Yoko after news that the brand's parent company is pulling funding due to their own financial issues. Salzer, who has said he originally conceived of Yoko Devereux as Gloria Vanderbilt's "evil twin," is known for his mischievous and irreverent takes on menswear staples, as well as stellar collabs with the likes of Surface2Air and Urban Outfitters.
Though this is all bad news for those who clamor for Salzer's clothes, there is an upside: Absurd deals on the spring '09 collection and fall samples. The Yoko Devereux liquidation sale starts online today. There will be a two-day sale "celebration" in the Williamsburg store beginning tomorrow through Thursday. Prices are silly-low: The brand's graphic tees are $5, cardigans and knits $20, and outerwear $40. Store furnishings are also up for grabs. With deals like these, we'll have enough Yoko to last us until Salzer gives birth to his next beautiful creation.
