Rodarte’s Apocalyptic Collection Channels Maoris, Stranded Islanders, and the Future Nomads of 2012!
Before the crowd was hushed and abrupt blackness gave way to chartreuse neon and billowing smoke at Rodarte, we weren't even sure where the camoflauged runway began or ended. But once the first look appeared--contoured in black tribal tattoos, hems of shredded cheesecloth, and leather at the base of wrapped dresses fit for nomads--we knew where to look. The clothes fit right into the neo-survivalist, pre-apocalyptic landscape that seems to be inspiring everyone's palette these days. From the deconstructed cut-out layers in all textures to models who nearly took nose dives in towering Kirkwood heels, the mood was intense. The Mulleavy sisters delivered a glimpse of devastation with a shot of futuristic glamour that we can only hope to adorn ourselves in once the world ends as we know it.
