Royal Parisian Candle Maker Opens First Shop In 126 Years

Man oh man are we chilly today—Mother Nature freaked out and the temps dropped a bajillion degrees. All we want to do is cuddle up with a cozy cashmere blanket, light a candle, and unwind with a bottle of Merlot. So, consider us de-lighted when we stopped by the opening of Cire Trudon, a venerable Parisian candle maker with 367 years of history behind them, which launched their second boutique in the world in a lovely below-ground space on Bond Street. Beloved by Marie Antoinette and Louis XIV, consider a Cire Trudon original the Rolls Royce of candles—these lovely lights, which are 100% natural, emblazoned with gold crest, and last for 72 hours, have been custom-produced for who's who of Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré: We're talking Dior, Hermès, and Cartier. The 800 square-foot shop itself is worth the trip, modeled as it is after the Galerie des Glaces at Versailles, with an old-world feel—handmade furniture (built by an Amish carpenter), aged French mirrors, and a splattering of antiques (all for sale), takes you to France "en un instant." For a fragrant late fall ambiance, pick up the Nazareth (cinnamon and orange), the Spiritus Sancti (amber), or, Odeur de Lune, a composition imagining the scent of this satellite orbiting around the earth with metallic notes based on NASA reports. If they're good enough for royalty, they're good enough for us.
