They say you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes. But, we think it's all in the nails — you don't have to be an expert in color theory to know that fire-engine red tips convey something totally different than a barely there nude. That said, a Wall Street Journal article revealing the best-selling nail shades by country definitely piqued our interest — might our preferred polish say something about our heritage, too?
A Sally Hansen executive spilled the details on the global brand's top sellers in countries including England, Australia, and Russia. The results ranged from unsurprising (we totally saw that deep red coming, Argentina) to awesomely unexpected. In fact, it seems Americans are already hip to spring's pastel polish trend, purchasing a plethora of Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet, a soft seafoam green.

Russian women, who see a coat of color as part of basic grooming, favor light pink, almost nude nails. Australians, too, gravitate toward subtle hues, purchasing Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure in Café Au Lait practically by the bucketful. (Unfortunately for us, it's not available stateside.) Meanwhile, in the U.K., women love the slightly shimmer-y Raisin The Bar, which jives with a variety of skin tones.
Lacquer lover or not, the article provides some interesting, albeit unconventional, insight into global culture. Click through for the full story. (The Wall Street Journal)
