Simon Doonan Charms Us, Talks About Being “A Fluffer”

Simon Doonan's endearing candor is one of the reasons we're such fans of the Barneys New York window dresser — that, and well, the breathtaking windows, of course. Opening up to Exposed Zippers about his career, favorite memories, and impending autobiographical movie, Confessions of a Window Dresser (we're not sure he's serious, re: the flick, but if Simon says... ), Doonan generously name-drops all the amazing designers he's had the chance to work with: "Alaia, Rei Kawakubo, Thierry Mugler, Lacroix, Romeo Gigli, Nicholas Ghesquierre, Olivier Theyskens."
While we can't help but admire his expansive list of collaborators, Doonan also brings it back down to earth, shining light on the Barneys mainstay's early days of window dressing for an Irish souvenir shop and the alternate career path he could have chosen as a "fluffer in a strip club." Certainly, he's a man of many talents. Click over to Exposed Zippers for the rest of the charming conversation. (Exposed Zippers)
