Harvey Nichols wants you to have your cake and eat it, too. The department store laughs in the face of Dry January. Instead, it's concocted a new menu of "skinny cocktails" at its Fifth Floor bar to tempt those trying to cut down on the calories this month. So far, so awesome, right?
Now, we're not averse to a guilt-free tipple (especially when most of Harvey Nick's new cocktails weigh in at fewer than 200 calories per glass). But while the Grapefruit Martini sounds utterly delicious (Absolut Vodka shaken with Kamm & Sons Ginseng spirit, freshly pressed grapefruit juice, and agave nectar), as does the vodka-based Hot Rhubarb, there are a few on the menu that are a little...um...harder to swallow.

Take the Carrot Cruncher, which combines Beefeater Gin with freshly pressed carrot juice and orange juice shaken with a touch of parsley, or the Celerytini, or the Beetroot Margarita for that matter. Clearly our tastebuds are so 2012.
The new skinny cocktails are available from today, but if you really want to sip yourself slim, Harvey Nichols is hosting a cocktail-and-yoga party on the morning of Tuesday, February 12 at the Fifth Floor. Instructors from Kensington's Equinox Gym will talk through the moves and then guests will be invited to quench their thirst with a skinny beverage. Sounds like a win-win situation to us (just as long as we can skip the carrot cocktails).
Tickets cost £25. To book a place, call 020 72018786.
