Love Local Music? Don’t Miss This Indie Showcase

CIGARETTE-Vanslide
It's no secret that we have plenty of D.C. pride — particularly for all its rad music, arts, and culture. That alone might be enough to send us to local label Sockets Records's showcase on Saturday, but it turns out the lineup is also pretty great.
Sockets began as a little project meant to document interesting sounds bubbling up from D.C.'s underground indie scene, and over the past eight years, has grown into a label putting out CDs, vinyl, and digital releases from numerous bands from the area and beyond. Saturday's showcase includes four local bands — Protect-U, Imperial China, Buildings, and Cigarette — that perfectly represent the label's experimental pop sensibilities. So, whether you're a regular on the local concert circuit (which explains the perma-stamp on the back of your hand) or in need of an indie-music primer, you should definitely pencil this event in, for Saturday night.
When: Saturday, January 28. Doors at 9 p.m.
Where: Black Cat, 1811 14th Street NW; 202-667-7960.
