It's official: Gentrification has hit the LES, full-on. Obviously this is nothing new, what with the mega clubs and the speakeasies and the fancy boutiques. But now the polishing-up is going next leve: It seems that swanky, members-only Soho House is moving into the neighborhood, bringing with it all the freelance fashion editors, London style stars, and general 1 percent-ness with it.
Of course, this is still just a rumor — but so was the TomKat divorce at one point (and we all know how that turned out). According to a source that spoke to Gothamist, the team behind the private club has been checking out a former funeral parlor space on Ludlow Street, and things could be firmed up as early as November. While a publicist for Soho House wouldn't confirm any details on the possible expansion, that sounds like a PR party line to us. What do you think: Would a potential Soho House fit in to the ever-changing LES atmosphere, or is it better left to the Meatpacking District? (Gothamist)
