Make Up Your Mind About Leather: Stella McCartney’s 3-Minute PETA Plea

It's hard to separate PETA from its paint-flinging, naked-women-in-cage-ing, catwalk-crashing tactics. For us, the stunts often distract from what their mission is: stopping cruelty to animals. And a huge part of that is informing people about the ways that fur and leather are made.
Getting a non-emotional account from PETA — especially one that involves a celebrity (especially if they're fully clothed) — is something we haven't really seen much of. But with Cathy Horyn's stamp of approval, this Stella McCartney video is a 3-minute-long, no-gimmicks narration of why Stella herself has dropped leather and fur from all of her designs, and a plea for you to make up your own mind as well. We know that leather- and fur-use are controversial subjects for fashion enthusiasts (and as personal a decision as becoming a vegetarian, so readers, play fair, because we're here to field everyone's opinions in the comments section below), but it's important to spend some time with the subject so you feel right with the decision you end up making. Start here. (NYT)
