Steve Madden is venturing into new territory. On September 11th, the man known for retail, not runway, tried his hand at high fashion for the first time. And we mean high—collaborating with Zac Posen, Steve Madden sent some reach-for-the-cloud sexy pumps and some decidedly Dr. Seuss-y, 8 inch wedges down the Z Spoke for Zac Posen spring '11 show for the line's New York Fashion Week debut. While seasoned vets like Hilary Rhoda and Behati Prnsloo, who walked in the show, fared fine, if a little wobbly, the pumps proved to be a bit of a hazard for others—looks of intense concentration were commonplace, and model Ataui Deng even took a semi-face plant on the runway (thought she recovered admirably). For a complete play by play of the first tumble at Lincoln Center, check out Styleite's photos of Deng's wobble here. We think Stevie would give even Lady Gaga a run for her money.
What do you say? Yay or nay to Steve Madden's new high fashion heels? Would you take your chances in these bad boys?
