The rapid rise of street style blogs over the past few years has given considerable shine to one small but growing and influential niche of style enthusiasts: The over-the-top-dapper black dandy. (Read a solid article on the matter here.)
While these fashionable gentlemen, who populate the trendiest Brooklyn 'hoods (and beyond), might seem like a brand-new concept, San Francisco's Museum of African Diaspora (MoAD) is now casting light on the history of the black dandy, as well as his contemporary incarnations, in a new one-night exhibit dubbed "The Art of the Suit: A Global Glimpse of the Sapeur and Black Dandyism." The show, which includes illustrations, music, and film, to chart this fashion movement, will debut at the top of next month at the museum's inaugural MoAD After Dark event, which is hosted by the museum's "Vanguard" club.
