The Standard Hotel Is Now Publishing Books

At this point, we really wouldn't be surprised if the Standard started making, say, spaceships. Hot on the heels of their newly launched culture site, Andre Balazs' hotel chainlet (with locations in Miami, LA, and of course right here), is turning its tasteful eye to book publishing. Their first production under the publishing imprint "Standard Press" is What Me Worry by artist Andrew Kuo. Due to be released on December 1, the tome is a compilation of Kuo's past projects and new works (paintings, photos, installations, recipes, and diary entries), and we're especially feeling his iconic music reviews in the form of charts and colored graphics that display his emotional reaction to bands. There seemed to be a need for a comprehensive survey of his beautifully observant, personal work, " said Claire Darrow, The Standard's Creative Director (who we LOVE), a longtime collector of Kuo's work. The 200-page hardcover ($49) will be sold exclusively through The Standard shops until February 1, 2011 and distributed internationally thereafter by Distributed Art Publishers. Now we'll just stay tuned for the Standard Intergalactic.
