If there’s music for tuning in and music for zoning out, Austin duo Boy Friend fall firmly in the latter category. Comprised of ex Sleep ∞ Over members Christa Palazzolo and Sarah Brown, the duo makes mood music for the times you want your feelings massaged by spectral beauty.
Think of “Egyptian Wrinkle” as sonic Xanax — a soft, woozy, shortcut to emotional calm. The ethereal vocals and washes of guitar recall My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins, yet Boy Friend put their own new age-y spin on the dreampop formula, sprinkling in hand claps and bongos. It’s a sound meant to experience rather than to parse, but after hearing "Egyptian Wrinkle" you'll surely want another dose...(just play it again).
