Keep Shelly In Athens are, you guessed it, Greek, but it would be a shame if their stunning Balearic-tinged pop never made it outside their home country. “DIY” begins with a brooding piano line upon which rhythmically dense, electronic groans are overlayed. The dark, percolating arrangement wouldn’t be out of place in an artsy thriller (I’m reminded of Dario Argento and John Carpenter movie themes), but that’s only until lead-singer Sarah P’s voice comes in like a jazz singer auditioning to replace Florence Welch in the Machine. It’s a breathtaking vocal turn backed by a riveting undercurrent, one that imbues “DIY” with a true air of suspense. They always said that the Greeks are known for their drama...
