1. HARD X MOUTH TAPED SHUT at The Warfield
“Major Lazer and James Murphy are headlining. Enough said. I totally forgot about this event until a friend reminded me earlier this week, so I've been anxiously counting down the days! The best part about it, aside from the lineup? It was free! I can't think of a better way to kick off the weekend than dancing with all my friends to really great music.”
2. Brunch at Starbelly
“What's the best hangover cure? A hearty brunch! Starbelly only serves brunch on weekends — but it's totally worth the wait if you're in the area. I usually go for their French Toast, which is topped off with bananas, nuts, and mascarpone. In addition, Starbelly cures their own bacon, which comes as a side with their French Toast or basic egg breakfast. Trust me, their bacon is so good that even Ron Swanson would approve. If you prefer something savory, their chorizo, egg, and cilantro pizza is also fantastic and worth a try.”
3. The Muppets movie at The Metreon
“I've been meaning to see The Muppets for the past few weeks, but my plans keep falling through. So, I feel like I have to finally see it this weekend before the holidays. I've heard great reviews both online and through friends who have already seen it, so I'm pretty excited. The Metreon is my favorite movie theater in the city (Kabuki in Japantown comes in close second) and its central location downtown makes it super easy to get to.”
4. Ice Skating in Union Square
“Surprisingly, I still haven't gone to any of the ice skating rinks that pop up in San Francisco, even after living here for more than five years. The rink in Union Square is right by the giant Christmas tree so the scene is as festive as it gets. Although honestly, I don't know how stoked I am about going with my friend who's a former figure skater, since I'm not very coordinated and I'll probably end up embarrassing myself in front of everyone... or maybe I'll learn a thing or two?”
5. Ugly Sweater Potluck with Friends
“I don't think I've gone a year without going to some sort of ugly sweater Christmas-themed gathering, and luckily my friends are organizing a potluck to fulfill the ritual this year. We're each bringing an ornament for our friend's tree, along with an appetizer, so I'm looking forward to ending the weekend by eating tons of food with great company before we all travel to our respective hometowns for the holidays. I've been looking for the perfect tacky sweater in thrift stores throughout the city but they're in such high demand that I may just end up wearing an oversized snowflake sweater which I wear casually anyway...”
